About

Welcome to the work notes of “An Electrical Guy Working as a Consultant.”

I’ll share, in the most down-to-earth way, my day-to-day consulting work, hands-on Electrical / Building Services (BS) experience, common pitfalls, and what I’ve learned myself.

What will I write about here?

  • Engineering practice: design trade-offs, calculation approaches, drawing/specification takeaways, on-site coordination
  • Guides: key points and common interpretations of commonly used COPs / Guidelines in Hong Kong
  • Getting into the industry: experience sharing for people who are working in / want to work in Electrical / BS

How can you use this blog?

  • Want to find info quickly: use the Search at the top right and type keywords (e.g., “FSD”, “EMSD”, “BEC”, “Earthing”)
  • Want to learn step-by-step: start from the more basic articles and work your way up (I’ll try my best to add examples and diagrams)
  • Have questions: feel free to leave a comment under the articles / suggest topics you want to read

A small disclaimer

  • I’ll try my best to be accurate, but for real projects you must refer to the latest laws / COPs / project requirements / contract documents.
  • If you spot any typos or mistakes, or if you have a better approach, please leave a comment and let me know—let’s improve together.
